Resumen:
The characteristics and performance of MgB2 coils capable to produce magnetic fields useful for application such as MRI, at temperatures compatible with liquid-helium-free operation were investigated. MgB2 powder was packed into stainless steel tubes and cold-drewed into round wires with external diameter in the range of 0.8-1.4 mm, with one intermediate annealing. The microcracks produced by the drawing was healed due to recrystallization promoted by the excess Mg. The results showed the formation of subgrains within the MgB2 crystallities with a high dislocation density at subgrain boundaries.
