In this paper we study the Lagrangian reduction of generalized nonholonomicsystems (GNHS) with symmetry. We restrict ourselves to those GNHS,defined on a configuration space $Q$, with kinematic constraintsgiven by a general submanifold $C_{K}subset TQ$, and variationalconstraints given by a distribution $C_{V}$ on $Q$. We develop areduction procedure that is similar to that of nonholonomic systemssatisfying d´Alembert´s principle, i.e. with $C_{K}$ a distributionand $C_{V}=C_{K}$. Special care is taken in identifying the geometricalstructures and mappings involved. We illustratethe general theory with an example.
