Resumen:
NiZnAl catalysts with a constant Zn:Al molar ratio and Ni amounts ranged from 0 to 25 wt.% have been prepared by citric complexing  method. They have been characterized by BET area measurements, X-ray diffraction and temperature programmed reduction. In all samples Zn and Al species were mainly incorporated into a highly crystalline ZnAl2O4 matrix with ZnO segregation. Depending on Ni composition it is also observed the formation of NiO. The presence of  NiAl2O4 and/or Al2O3 cannot be ruled out. At 600°C and a H2O/C2H5OH feed molar ratio near to the stechiometric value, all catalysts are able to convert ethanol completely. The main products are CO and CO2 and minor amounts of CH4 depending on catalyst composition. For the 1%Ni catalyst is also observed the formation of C2H4,  C3, etc. From the high H2 and CO selectivities and the low CH4 selectivity when the amount of Ni is ³ 18%, the reforming of CH4 seems to be an important contribution to the global process.
