Different clays (two bentonites and a kaolin) treated with 6 N sulfuric acid solution at boil temperature were used as catalysts for terpenes isomerization. The catalytic reactions were carried out at 373 K, during one hour, in a reactor batch with condenser and stirrer. The products were analyzed in a gas chromatograph after separation of the individual compounds. The catalysts were characterized by chemical analysis, BET surface, pore volume, and Brönsted and total acidities. Alpha pinene conversions were obtained in the range of 25,3-66,5%. The majority products were canfeno (52,6-62,5 %) and limoneno (20,9-39,8 %). The pore volume and Brönsted acidity influenced in alpha pinene conversions.
