The evolution of the equiatomic Fe-B mixture under mechanical alloying was followed by Mössbauer effect and x-ray diffraction. It is shown that a two stage reaction develops: mixing of the element giving place to the formation of intermetallic compounds, followed by the decomposition into boron depleted intermetallic phases at longer milling times.
