Resumen:
In thin layer electrochemistry (ECD), the presence of convection in ion transport,  increases complexity. Several ways have been proposed to reduce it: diminishing  cell thickness, experiments in a cell with different orientations relative to gravity, or under microgravity conditions  and through electrolyte viscosity variations. Previous 1D theoretical ECD models with horizontal cells assumed fixed electrodes,  two or three ion electrolytes,  constant voltage and steady state regimes. In a 1D evolutionary model in an horizontal cell assuming no convection,  moving electrodes,  a three ion electrolyte and galvanostatic conditions was introduced; absence of convection in horizontal cells  limited its validity.  In ECD  in a vertical cell was examined revealing that the absence of global convection could allow a 1D formulation. Accordingly,  here we study  ECD in a vertical cell with cathode at the top by schlieren and light absortion techniques and a 1D theoretical modelling.
