Obesity is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by increasedadipose tissue (AT) inflammation due to a positive energy balance. Hypertrophy of thevisceral AT causes accumulation of macrophages, leading to the production of proinflammatory cytokines, whichtogether with the release  reactiveoxygen species (ROS), cause systemic inflammation affecting insulin sensitivityand redox/inflammatory profile.
