Resumen:
Gastropods and brachiopods ofthe Pituil Formation at the Barrancón
creek, Carboniferous of the Precordillera of San Juan. The gastropods
Auriptygma? sp., Mourlonia? sp., Murchisonia? sp., Neoplatyteichum
barrealensis (Reed), Ptychomphalina striata (Sowerby), Ptychomphalina
turgentis Taboada, Straparollus (Straparollus) sp. and the brachiopods Anopliidae
indet, Beecheria sp., Gonzalezius naranjoensis Taboada, Martinia? sp.,
Reticularia sp. indet, Spirifer sp., besides Orchesteropus atavus Frenguelli are
identified in the Pituil Formation at the Barrancón creek, westem flank ofthe
Precordillera ofSan Juan. All fossils known to this locality, including remains of
the NBG flora and genera ofthe Apiculati Infraturma, come from the "Spotted
Sandstone and Siltstone Member", which can be correlated with the widespread
postglacial deposits of the lIla paleoclimatic subphase or threshold of an
interglacial event in westem Argentina. In the Precordillera, this faunal
association would be close to the top ofthe Levipustula levis Maxwell biozone or
may be representing the first younger subsequent faunistic record with an
estimative late bashkirian-early moscovian age.
