Resumen:
The somatic chromosomes of Dyssochroma viridiflorum (Sims) Miers (2n = 2x = 24) are examined by classical and silver staining for the first time. The karyotype of this species is simmetrical and composed by 10 m pairs + 1 msm pair + 1 sm pair; two pairs (no. 4 and 9) have active rDNA loci (AgNORs) and attached satellites in the short arms. AgNORs of metaphase chromosomes and nucleoli of interphase nuclei vary in number and size, the satellites being polymorphic. Mitotic abnormalities in root tips related to the seeds age were found. The results are compared with previos reports for the other species of the genus, D. longipes (Sendt.) Miers. Data show some differences between both species.
