Resumen:
SUMMARY A series of new cationic and non ionic gemini surfactants having dimeric structures derived of primary and tertiary amines with variable long tails (C8-C12-C18) were synthesized and named 3a-f. All surfactants were tested to evaluate their antifungal properties using the method for broth macrodilution test (M27-A2, NCCLS). Four microbial strains were used to perform the study: Candida parasilopsis (ATCC 22019), Candida albicans (ATCC 64548), a wild-type strain of Candida parasilopsis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ATCC 9763). The antimicrobial activity was measured by yeast growth inhibition expressed as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. 3a was found to be the most potent compound. The results show S. cerevisiae as the most sensitive strain. In contrast, the wild strain of C. parasilopsis was resistant.
