Resumen:
The pursuit of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials has been poweredby environmental concerns and the decline in oil reserves. Among the different routestowards this end, the replacement of oil-based materials by renewable materials stoodout. In this way, protein based materials have gained interest. This review articlesummarizes the progress achieved in the synthesis of hybrid protein/synthetic polymer nanoparticles which have the potential to be used in industrial applications. Althoughtechnical achievements and efficacy proofs concerning the increased compatibility ofpolymer/protein are already available, the practical implementation in industry stillrepresents an additional challenge and should be in the focus of interest in futureresearch. The available literature supports the potential of hybrid protein/polymernanoparticles in the obtaining of ecofriendly alternatives for large scale applications ascoatings, paints, adhesives and films.
