Resumen:
The catalytic performance of copper and gallium based catalysts, CuGaO2 and Cu/Ga2O3,and a reference catalyst, Cu/SiO2, were evaluated under ethanol dehydrogenation conditionsfor acetaldehyde production. A mixture of C2H5OH/Ar (4.2% v/v) at 1 atm was used,maintaining the same contact time of ethanol per weight of copper loaded into the reactor (0.14gCu.h/molC2H5OH), at 200, 250 and 300 ºC. Carbon accumulation on the catalysts were quantifiedafter 4 h under reaction conditions. The copper and gallium delafossite, CuGaO2, was thecatalyst that presented the best performance, reaching a steady state condition after 1 h underreaction conditions at 300 ºC and an acetaldehyde yield of approximately 40 %. The coppercatalyst supported on gallia showed an approximately constant ethanol conversion during 4 h,but it is the least selective since the yields to acetaldehyde, diethyl ether and ethylene were13.5, 12.2 and 7%, respectively. Cu/SiO2 was the least stable catalyst, due in part to carbondeposition.
