Resumen:
The catalytic performance of copper and gallium delafosite (CuGaO2) in the oxidative carbonylation reaction of methanol to dimethyl carbonate (DMC) was studied. The results indicate that a change in the total pressure of the system mainly influences the distribution of products. For the same temperature, the selectivity to DMC increased with increasing pressure, achieving 100% selectivity to DMC at 100 °C and 2.5 bar. Reactivity tests carried out in the absence of gaseous oxygen did not generate DMC, evidencing its need in the reaction mixture. Through FTIR analysis, the interaction between the surface and the main species involved in the reaction (methanol, DMC and FM) was studied. Moreover, studying the co-adsorption of methanol and CO by FTIR, the monomethyl carbonate (MMC) adsorbed on the CuGaO2 surface was identified. MMC is considered a possible intermediate of this reaction, revealing that the first stages of it could occur without the presence of gaseous oxygen, probably due to the contribution of oxygen from the mixed oxide structure.
