Heart rate variability during myocardial ischemia: A multifractal approach

In this work we apply multifractal analysis to heart rate variability (HRV) and we propose new measures derived from multifractal analysis tools to characterize the transitory myocardial ischemia. The comparison of these measures in normal and ischemic portions reveals differences in the regularity structure, in agreement with well known physiopathological facts. The statistical results suggest that the analysis here proposed provides useful information for the assessment of dynamic and patterns changes of HRV during myocardial ischemia, with the additional advantage that a single index is enough to accurately characterize the outlined problem.
