In this work we apply multifractal analysis to heart rate variability (HRV) and we propose new fractal measures to characterize the transitory myocardial ischemia. Differences in the regularity structure were identified during ischemic episodes with regard to an area of normality in the same patient. Statistical results suggest that fractal indexes here proposed provide useful information for the assessment of dynamic changes and patterns of HRV during myocardial ischemia, with the additional advantage that a single index is enough to accurately characterize the outlined problem.
