Resumen:
Several recent contributions to the geotechnical literature propose analytical or semianalytical solutions for estimating the distribution of ground movements caused by tunneling in soft ground. In principle, these analytical solutions provide a more consistent framework for interpreting horizontal and vertical components of ground deformations than do conventional empirical models e.g., Peck 1969; O?Reilly and New 1982 and use a small number of input parameters that can be readily calibrated to field data. However, these advantages are lost when further empiricism or engineering judgment is introduced. This appears to be a major disadvantage of the method proposed by the author.
