Resumen:
Bioabsorbable devices are actually applied in a wide range of clinical cases. These products are exposed to several physical, chemical and mechanical requirements. Particularly, mechanical performance under different loading conditions should be exhaustively analyzed in order to warrant the long term success. In the present work, mechanical behaviour of polylactic acid (PLA) implants: i) maxillofacial plate and ii) interference screw was simulated by FEM (Finite Element Method). Standardized procedures were considered for both implants (4 point-bending test for the maxillofacial plate and pull out test for the interference screw). Result shows that, maximum von-mises stress values were placed on the screw surfaces for both implants. All obtained stress values were lower to the PLA yield stress. Displacements achieved by simulations were similar to experimentally observed.
