This paper seeks to reflect from a new perspective the relationship between the origins of the State intervention in social problemas and the emergence of female role, in the context of the creation of the Rio de La Plata Viceroyship. Taking into account the contrast between the social action and the political activity of two women, Encarnación Ezcurra and Mariquita Sánchez, modifications in the act of giving are examined in the context of the so called modernization of social aid and the secularization of responses to poverty.
