The level of control of two plant defense biological products being developed by our group was evaluated against soybean target spot disease caused by Corynespora cassiicola. The main goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of the concentration and moment of application of the plant defense inducers PSP1 and PSP2. Soybean plants (cv A8000 RG) were treated with six concentrations of PSP1 and five concentrations of PSP2 at 1, 3, and 5 days before inoculation (dai) with the pathogen. In addition, the induction of four defense genes (PR1a, PR3, PR10, and SCaM-5) was determined at 2, 4, 6, and 12 hours post-treated (hpt) with the biological products at the optimal concentration. PSP1 induced early expression of PR3, PR10 peaked at 2 hpt, while PR1a and SCaM-5 reached a peak at 12 hpt. In PSP2 treatment, PR1a showed an increase starting at 2 hpt, and reaching a maximum value at 12 hpt. The PR3 gene was downregulated between 6 and 24 hpt and PR10 was down-regulated at 2 hpt and up-regulated at 12 hpt. SCaM-5 showed the same expression profile for both biological products. The results showed that the decrease in disease severity in plants treated with PSP1 and PSP2 was associated with the activation of a defense plant response against the pathogen.
