Resumen:
Liquid-phase glycerol (Gly) oxidation was investigated systematically over a Pt/C catalyst. The catalystwas prepared by impregnation with a (NH4)2[PtCl4] solution, in order to obtain a 1 wt% Pt. The catalystwas characterized by AAS, TEM and TPR techniques. The reaction conditions were optimized byconducting experiments in the range of temperature from 40 to 60°C, Gly/Pt molar ratio between 4000and 10000, pH between 5 and 13 and H2O2 concentration in order to get between 2.5 and 10 volumes ofactive oxygen in the reactor. The optimum reaction conditions were identified as 60°C, Gly/Pt = 4000,pH= 5, H2O2 concentration enough to obtain 10vol of O2, 100 mg catalyst and constant stirring. Underthese conditions, a maximum glyceric acid (GlyA) selectivity of 57.1% was obtained at 37% Glyconversion.
