Resumen:
The samples were prepared using commercial alpha-alumina cylinders as support The deposition of SiO2 coatings was made by sol-gel process at different pH conditions. The mullite formation was produced by thermal treatment of the samples at 1550°C during 4 hours. Several techniques were used for the samples characterization (FTIR, SEM, X-ray, etc). A noticeable influence of the pH conditions on the properties of the mullite coatings was observed. Different thickness of superficial coatings were obtained. The produced mullite structures showed marked dissimilarities. The best properties were observed in the sample synthesized in acid medium
