Resumen:
In the field of fine chemicals, bimetallic Pt-Sn supported catalysts are widely used for selective hydrogenations due to their improved performance and increased stability in relation to the monometallic Pt catalysts. Another way to improve selectivity is the use of a support able to modify the catalytic properties of the dispersed metal or bimetallic active phase, such as TiO2. In this work, the promoting effect of tin added by means of a surface controlled reaction, has been studied for a PtSn/TiO2 catalyst in the selective hydrogenation of furfuraldehyde (FAL) to furfurylalcohol (FOL). Pt/SiO2 and PtSn/SiO2 catalysts have been used for comparison purposes.
