Resumen:
In the last two decades studies of social inequality, and particularly in the recent period, studies on inequalities in the Latin American context seem to have gained new vitality (Kessler, 2014). Empirical research and theoretical dialogues have been amplified, thus accounting for the promotion of studies on living conditions and social structure framed in this approach. In order to arrive at the concept of inequality from a local perspective, we will review the approaches that have been taken on living conditions from the sociological point of view, especially the background of Gino Germani, and the concepts of marginality, vulnerability, exclusion and poverty, in the Argentine context, in recent decades. In the chapter we will reconstruct some of the discussions that give rise to the problem in order to take up again the approaches to the social structure in Argentina. This debate, from the sociological point of view, began in the context of the Welfare States in the middle of the 20th century, and has taken on different facets through discussions on marginality and exclusion, and later on through poverty studies, its characteristics and forms of measurement. The objective of this chapter is to summarize the approaches present in studies on living conditions in Latin America, particularly in Argentina. We will especially focus on the perspectives that have been sustained within sociology, taking into account the framework of social inequality. We will place special emphasis on the theoretical approaches to the subject, the dialogues and points of contact between these approaches and the empirical approximations that are built in the research.
