Resumen:
With the shift toward open data -originating not only from public organizations but also from nongovernment organizations and private companies- and proliferating big data from many sources such as companies' databases, the Internet, camera and sensor networks, telescopes, and the like, we have reached a tipping point. How can we develop and support data interoperability in applications now that both data complexity and scale are so enormous? As the Internet of Things (IoT) and the information economy are of increasing social, commercial, and political importance, our ability to effectively and efficiently combine and share data will determine such data's value. Combining multiple heterogeneous data sources, often a complex endeavor, requires interoperability at all levels. Even if an organization has access to ubiquitous and cheap data, its ability to make use of and synthesize data from various sources will likely determine its success going forward. To that end, we have developed guidance to help an organization gauge its maturity level in terms of data handling, assess its capabilities in implementing and supporting data interoperability, and facilitate the creation and management of a data portfolio.
