Resumen:
The aim of this work is to assess the behavior ofbiocomposites (CPSs) in regard to the generation of biogenichydroxyapatite and also their degradation depending on theconcentration of cross-linker agent, pH, and ionic strength. The development of these composites with potential applicationin bone tissue regeneration is based on alginate and syntheticnano-hydroxyapatite (nano-HA), which was used as across-linker agent. The CPSs showed the capability to developbiogenic hydroxyapatite when they were incubated in simulatedbody fluid (SBF) depending on the incubation time andconcentration of the linker. These results were analyzed by xraydiffraction (XRD), Fourier transforminfrared (FT-IR), andscanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, the CPSshave shown resistance to the degradation (demonstrated byswelling and dissolution tests) when the mentioned conditionswere modified. Finally, the development of a liquid crystallinephase within the composites, which contributes to reinforcetheir structure, is a novel finding in this study. This behaviorhas been shown by means of optical microscopy (OM) withcrossed polaroids. Thus, these composites displayed promisingresults to be used as bone filling materials in the future.
