Resumen:
Tiwanaku is among the most prominent sites in the Andes, but despite nearly a century of research, it remains unclear when the site was founded, currently thought to be around 300 B.C. Excavations in 2008 in the Kk?araña sector follow patterns suggested by previous research, that the earliest material culture is from the first part of the Late Formative period, which seems to dates to the first and second centuries A.D. This refinement to the site?s history carries implications for clarifying the subsequent relatively rapid process of state emergence, and enables comparisons to other episodes of primary state formation.
