This invited talk was presented at "Carnegie Institution of Washington" by Dr. Hagay Amit and carried out in collaboration with the co-authors of the paper. The aim of the talk is to explain how the Earth's magnetic field is generated, how it varies with time and mainly why the South Atlantic Anomaly is generated, where the field takes its minimum value. Ending with an approximation of the position of the magnetic poles in ideal situations of geomagnetic inversion.
