Besides, 3D hybrid solids may build-in inorganic networks of different dimensionalities, opening the possibility of designing materials with interesting optical or magnetic properties when suitable metals are included. In particular the rich coordination chemistry of lanthanides offers potential applications in the design of smart complexes. Taking into account the diversity of coordination modes shown by the aliphatic dicarboxylates and trying to go deeper on this matter we have investigated the influence of the synthesis conditions on the structural properties and thermal stability of Nd(III) glutarate (glut) hydrates.
