Resumen:
VSbO4 oxide is known as an efficient catalyst for hydrocarbon oxidation and ammoxidation. It has two redox couples Sb3+/Sb5+ and V3+/V4+ in a stabilized rutile matrix. However, there are some discrepancies about the catalytic role of each metal cation. The doping with foreign cations can modify these ratios, and this fact could be used as a key to get a better performance of the solid as a catalyst. We have found that activity and selectivity in partial oxidation of toluene were strongly affected by the ratios of the redox couples mentioned above. The aim of the present research is to study the changes in the product distribution of the vapour-phase oxidation of toluene produced by the replacing of antimony and vanadium by titanium in the antimonate structure. We relate the redox properties and the structural characteristics of the solid with the changes observed in their catalytic behaviour.
