In the present study we identifiedthe A/N-Inv family in the wheat genome, analyzed its structure, phylogeny andexpression patterns, which were compared with other plants. Similarly to rice,we identified 4 and 3 putative genes coding for cytosolic (Ta-NIN5 to 8) andorganelle isoforms (Ta-NIN1 to 4), respectively, whose sequences werecategorized into the two major clades described. Expression analyses showedthat genes coding for cytosolic isozymes expressed in roots and leaves, andwere differentially regulated in response to cold and drought stress. Weconclude that organellar wheat A/N-Invs are conserved and common to distantlyrelated plants, and some of the cytosolic isoforms are induced in response toenvironmental stresses.
