The effect of polymer swelling on electrospun PVA mats morphology when used as water filters was studied. The existence of a transitory stage during which fibers diameter, meshes roughness, permeation rate and rejection ratio, change was demonstrated. This shows that when correlating a polymeric mesh with its possibility of retaining solids thanks to its porosity, its morphology should not be evaluated in dry state (as it is done in the literature) but once it has stabilized in the used solvent.
