Electrospun mats swelling and its effects in scattering properties

The effect of polymer swelling on electrospun PVA mats morphology and the consequences on its optical properties were studied. We show that, when working with hydrophilic polymers, the water content can radically change its light scattering behavior. This is an important factor that is not usually taken into account when the possible applications of these materials are projected.
