Improvements in elastic modulus of starch films incorporating PLA electrospun nanofibres

Starch films reinforced with polylactic acid nanofibres obtained by the electrospinning technique were developed through compression moulding technique. A citrate ester based on glycerol and citric acid was used to improve the compatibility between the polymers. FTIR studies showed that interactions among starch and the compatibilizer and among PLA and the compatibilizer took place. An important improvement, of two orders of magnitude, in starch elastic modulus was obtained with the fibres incorporation.
