Resumen:
In order toconsider the relationship between scientific inquiries and common sense we shouldtake a standpoint which is not only logical or epistemological but equallymoral and political. “In this sense –Gautier explains– the attitudes ofknowledge which determine these different domains are attitudes which must beoriented by values [… for…] the question of the attitude of knowledgemust be linked together with that of the interests of knowledge.” (2017, p. 14,18). There arise, then, some important questions: how is the direction of inquiry determined? How should the return-wave of inquiry be guided and adjudged? What kind ofvalues should be considered to guide the relations of the concerns of commonsense and science with each other? By trying to answer these questions, myintention is to claim that the path from common sense to science and back tocommon sense requires a philosophical-political approach to scientificinquiries, for which Dewey offers solid grounds and insights.
