Resumen:
Coordination complexes have been extensively studied as antitumor agents, offering a potential alternative for cancer treatment. In this sense, copper compounds are attracting increasing interest as alternatives to traditional platinum drugs. Moreover, Schiff bases have been broadly investigated due to their antitumor properties, and can act as polydentate ligands in interaction with metal cations. The aim of this work is to evaluate the antitumoral activity of a novel copper complex cation with a tridentate Schiff base ligand (SBT), containing thiophene [Cu(BTSBT)(H2O]+, in 2D (monolayer) and 3D (multicellular spheroids) cancer models. The cytotoxic activity was tested against a panel of human cell lines including Jurkat (leukemia), MG-63 (osteosarcoma), A549 (lung), MDA-MB-231 (breast) and MCF7 (breast), using MTT assay. The complex significantly reduced the cell viability in all cell lines tested (Jurkat IC50: 2.64µM; MG-63 IC50: 3.49µM; A549 IC50: 2.46µM; MDA-MB-231 IC50: 1.89µM; MCF7 IC50: 1.58µM) (p
