Improved preparation of methyl 4, 6-O-benzylidene-α-d-glucopyranoside

Methyl 4,6-0-Benzilidene-a-D-glucopyranoside is one of the mpst widely used monosacharide derivatives. The use of a benzilidene acetal as rotecting group has several adventages, in terms of stability, conformational rigdity and selective cleavage. There are several methods for preparing this monoprotectes derivative.In the present work we show a modification of the usual procedure for the synthesis of this precursor, without additional cost, much simpler, which reduces the synthesis time of more than 36 to 6 hours and which is more respectful with the environment at minimize the use of chlorinated compounds.
