Resumen:
Introduction: Reactive oxygen species (ROS), as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), plays an important role in the cellular apoptosis. The objective was to determine if the essential oil (EO) from Minthostachys verticillata displays antioxidants effects, protecting to human lymphocytes of apoptosis induced by H2O2. Methodology: LD50 of H2O2 by dose-response curve was determined. In order to evaluate the protective capacity of EO, lymphocytes were pre-treated with 6 µg/mL of EO, during 1 h, to 37º C with 5% of CO2. Then, H2O2 was added (LD50), was incubated to 37º C, 4-6 h and 10 μL of MTT were added. The cells were dyed with Hoechst 33258 to observe apoptotics figures. Results: LD50 of H2O2 was 1mmol/L. The pre- treatment with EO increased the rank of cellular viability a 21% (p
