In this work, the finite element method was used to simulate the behavior of a microcracked chromium coating during dry sliding friction. Before simulation, an experimental ball-on-ring test had been carried out to determine the coefficient of friction (COF). A single cracked model was created using two different software, in order to compare the results obtained. The analysis was performed through the parameterization of three variables (distance from crack tip, depth of the crack from surface and length of the crack). The influence of each one of them was established
