Resumen:
In this work we report the progress made in the teaching of Industrial Informatics, an emerging discipline incorporated to the post-degree Specialization in Industrial Automation Engineering, at the University of Buenos Aires. The incorporation of the Industrial Informatics course responds to real-world needs detected in engineers and other professionals in the field of Industrial Processes. The main objective of the course is to train in informatic and networking concepts in order to solve problems that arise in modern interconnected automated plants. In this course we develop topics regarding the adoption of standard computer components to integrate flexible hybrid solutions (in opposition to monolithic turn-key systems), standard and appropriate adoption of technologies into the industrial environment (IP67 switches), and visual programming for automation applications and SCADA-HMI systems. The course also addresses the challenge of cross-company integration of information levels (e.g. factory floor to management), understanding the different coexisting cultural views of computing systems.
