Resumen:
The eastern piedmont of the sierra de Talacasto islocated 54 km north of the San Juan city. This arid region is affected bysummer precipitation that causes flooding risks and problems in National Route40 placed downstream. This route integrates the International corridorconnecting San Juan city with the ports of the coast of the Pacific Ocean inChile. The aim of this paper is to identify and recognize the distribution ofQuaternary geological units and the physical properties of soil as a tool forsustainable planning. Descriptionsof soil properties in the superficial 50 cm were made, in addition observationsand infiltration measures along a North-South line in the distal alluvial fanof Talacasto were performed. The results indicate that the soils withpedogenetic structures in horizons (Av and Bkm) increase superficial runoff anddecrease infiltration. It concludes that the superficial runoff in the regionis controlled by the Av horizon that underlies the detrital surfaces of regs.
