Resumen:
This paper presents athermo-metallurgical study of a Jominy Test performed to AISI 1040 grade steel,which aims to: (i) determine the reproducibility of the Jominy test with the available equipment, and (ii) obtain the experimental data necessary tovalidate a numerical computational model of a Jominy specimen cooling process.The thermal study consisted of registering temperatures evolution andcooling speedsin three points to 3.45 mm, 13.15 mm, 51 mm quenched end. Measurements of micro-hardnessat different distances from the quenched end were also made. Cooling speedsresults were compared with those reported in the literature reference. Thehardness values were compared with an SAE 1038 steel hardenability bands andthe values obtained using a model developed by some of the authors of thiswork. Micro-constituents observed in three areas analyzed were compared (qualitatively) with which should be observed by overlaying curves of SteelAISI 1040 CCT cooling curve.
