In this paper, the nucleation and the propagation of Lüders bands in the low carbon steel has been evaluated through the finite element method. This plastic instability phenomenon has been analyzed in tensile tests, conducted in standard samples and in specimens with stress concentration. The development of the bands has been observed, as well as the load x displacement curves and the evolution of the effective strain and the effective stress in three different regions of the samples. The results revealed the effects of the stress concentrations and the behavior of the metal during the passage of the deformation band
