Resumen:
Argentina has two endemic areas of Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), one to the northwest and one to the northeast of the country. In north-eastern, Chaco province has the highest incidence of PCM arising with the chronic form (adult type) in 90% of cases. The aim was to know the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of PCM cases during the period 2008-2013, treated at the Hospital of adults "Dr. JC Perrando", referral centre of the province of Chaco.A descriptive retrospective analysis of cases diagnosed in the microbiology laboratory was performed; 41 cases, 37 (90.2%) men and 4(9.8%) women aged 19 to 74 years (median 53 years) were recorded. In 16 patients diagnosis was only microbiological, in 17 serological and microbiological and in 8 patients only serological. In 3 patients with microbiological diagnosis, serology was negative. In 13 patients the serology was not determined.80% of patients had pulmonary and 46% oropharyngeal manifestations.Less frequent locations: 1 patient with bone lesion; 2 patients with genital lesions:1 with glans ulcer and 1 with testicular tumor; 1 patient with cerebellar abscess; and another one with a septic embolism in an aorto-bifemoral prosthesis implanted secondarily to Leriche syndrome. A strictly urban case presented unifocal bone lesion. It is striking that 15 of the 41cases were diagnosed only in 2013 showing a likely increase in the incidence of PCM associating with rare locations.
