Resumen:
This study was performed between July 1998 and August 1999. The aim was to determine the frequency of yeasts species and antifungal susceptibility profile of Candida isolates causing nosocomial fungal infections in pediatric patients. Biological sample or isolates were derivated from 3 public pediatric centers. Eighty-five specimens from different clinical origin were received. Kreger van-Rij method and Api ID 32C (bioMérieux) were used for identification. The distribution of species obtained was C. albicans 31%, C. tropicalis 28%, C. parapsilosis 19%, C. glabrata 2,4%, C. krusei 2,4%, C. guilliermondii 1,2%, Trichosporon cutaneum 1,2% and Cryptococcus neoformans 1,2%. C.albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis showed association in 5 cases. The antifungal sensitivity test employed was the NCCLS micromethod M27A. All the isolates were susceptible to Amphotericin B. Most of the isolates of C. albicans (29/31) and C. tropicalis (25/28) were susceptible to Fluconazole (FCZ), Itraconazole (ITZ) and Ketoconazole (KTZ). All the strains of C. parapsilosis (19) were susceptible to these azole agents. C. krusei (2) showed resistance to FCZ and ITZ but was susceptible to KTZ. One strain of C. glabrata (1/2) was resistent and the other (1/2) susceptible to all of this antifungals. These data showed a different distribution of Candida species compared with results obtained in others reports of Argentine as well as others countries.
