Resumen:
Porcine placenta is epitheliochorial, diffuse, folded, adecidua, and non invasive. Fibronectin (FN) plays a role in cell adhesion, migration, differentiation, implantation, embryogenesis and oncogenic transformation. The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of FN during porcine placentation. Placental tissue samples from sows on gestation days (gd) 30, 60, 70 and 114 and non-pregnant uterus samples were used (n=18). The detection of FN was performed by indirect immunoperoxidase using biotinylated antibodies and streptavidin-HRP, and was visualized by DAB. The most intensive staining for FN was found in conceptus trophectoderm, particularly in the apical membrane at 30 gd; the staining was weaker at 60 and 70 gd and negative at term of pregnancy. FN was not expressed in glandular and endometrial epithelium in all investigated periods. The results of this study suggest that the fetal origin FN could participate in the molecular events leading to successful placentation in pigs.
