Resumen:
The aim of this communication is to inform about the results of archaeological investigations carried out in the central strip of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, the main island of the fuegian archipelago. The central sector of the island, usually referred to as Heart of the Island, is a mountainous and woody environment, characterized by development of sub Antarctic forest as well as by its various environments and microenvironments with different resources. In our research, the main goal is to evaluate the interrelationship between environments, resources and population dynamics. Therefore, we developed systematic surveys in different sectors of the area. In this communication we will present the results of those developed in the southern basin of Fagnano lake, the basins of Yehuin and Chepelmut lakes, around many small lakes and lagoons and along the lower course of rivers that flow to the Atlantic coast. The objective of this research is to understand the use of landscape and its different environments, as well as biotic and abiotic resource management by the hunter gatherer inland societies who lived in the area.
