Social Movement Deputies in the National Congress: Group Delegates or Party Loyalists?

Since the arrival of Frente de Todos to the presidency of Argentina in 2019, the social movements that supported that coalition have gained positions in the state. A novelty of this incorporation was the arrival in the National Congress of eight deputies who belong to social organisations. This article analyses how these deputies carried out their legislative work, seeking to understand what model of legislator they embodied. To this end, we consider the types of parliamentarians "group delegates" and "party loyalists", from the classic typology on party recruitment. This work is based on a qualitative approach, using research techniques such as visits to Congress, documentary analysis of the record of its votes in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, and on the different public initiatives they carried out to give visibility to their legislative proposals.
