Resumen:
Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) hydrolyzes a wider range of beta-lactam substrates, contributing to antibiotic resistance, a global concern. Understanding the evolution of ESBL is essential for developing effective antimicrobial treatment strategies. Between 2018-2019 and 2022, we collected ESBL-producing bacteria from Mendoza´s Central Hospital. Our aim was to compare the prevalence of genes responsible for the ESBL phenotype using PCR technology. We compared the results obtained during the 2018-2019 period with those from the post-pandemic year 2022. In both periods, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the most prevalent bacteria in the samples. During 2018-2019, prevalent genes among hospitalized patients included blaOXA-1, blaCTX-M1, and blaTEM-1. We obtained preliminary results from the 2022 samples, specifically examining blaCTXM-1, blaCTXM-2, and blaSHV-1. We observed a significant increase (p
