Resumen:
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and PolyVinyl Alcohol-Pectin (PVA-P) films containing the flouroquinolone enrofloxacin, and an keratinase enzyme, which were developed to treat wounds and eschars, acting as a patch in the infected skin areas In this work, characterization of the polymeric blend as well as PVA-P keratinase-enrofloxacin matrix was achieved to get insight on structure-function relationship. The presence of pectin in PVA cryogel increase the size of PVA nanodomains determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns which implies an interaction between both polymers. SAXS analysis showed changes in 0.84 nm of PVA nanodomains when enrofloxacin and keratinase were immobilized into PVA-P cryogels. These results confirmed the incorporation of both the enzyme and enrofloxacin in the polymeric matrix. A model involving the complex formation between the enzyme and enrofloxacin allocated through and between PVA nanodomains is proposed and it is well-correlated with results obtained in previous work in where enrofloxacin kinetic release is retarded by the presence of keratinase in the gels.
