Ibuprofen Incorporation and Release in Ferrogels

Ferrogels were prepared by in-situ precipitation of magnetic nanoparticles in Poly (vinyl alcohol) in order to obtainmaterials for drug delivery devices. The polymer crosslinking was carried out by a non-toxic technique calledfreezing-thawing (F-T). Ibuprofen, ((RS)-2-(4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl)propanoic acid), a nonsteroidal antiinflammatorydrug of widespread use as analgesic in common pharmacological treatments, was incorporated intothe gels. To this purpose two different routes were carried out: incorporation before crosslinking and swelling inthe ibuprofen solution after crosslinking. As prepared materials were characterized by means of Electronmicroscopies (SEM), X-Ray diffraction, Thermogravimetric Analyses, Differential Scanning Calorimetry andMagnetic properties. The ibuprofen release was studied in batch.
